Title: Newsflash! New Development in Workshop
Author: Ellen Hursh
Keywords: ER/Sesame Street crossover (sort of); parody (sort of);
homosexual themes (sort of)
Disclaimer (1): Sesame Street, and the characters within, are the
property of the Children's Television Workshop. The author is not making
a profit (as if!) and, in fact, will probably go straight to hell simply
for writing this parody. But... the muse called, and you don't say no to
her. Besides, I was raised on the show... consider it a rather bizarre
homage, if you like.
Disclaimer (2): ER, and the characters within, are the property of
Warner Bros. and other people with much more money than I will ever see
in the course of several lifetimes. (Just thought I'd specify that, even
though it's only mentioned in passing.)

Sesame Street News
Following in the footsteps of the award-winning drama "ER", the
long-running Children's Television Workshop production "Sesame Street"
will pave new roads in children's programming next month, when
pageant-mistress Prairie Dawn will explore a lesbian relationship with
special guest-star Miss Piggy.
Miss Dawn was recently quoted as saying, "I'm really excited about this
chance to prove that Muppets can be more than two-dimensional puppet
characters, that our feelings are no less real, or valid, just because
we come in weird colors and are made of felt. In fact, I was so excited
that I wrote a pageant about my feelings!"
Reports, that the special human guest stars in the episodes leading up
to Miss Dawn's story arc will include Melissa Etheridge and Phranc,
singing a duet of "One (Is the Loneliest Number)", accompanied by a
chorusline of singing and dancing Muppet numbers, remain unconfirmed.
Co-star Bert, however, was reportedly unimpressed with the upcoming
storyline. "Ernie and me, we've been together since the very beginning,
and we'd discussed with Jim [Henson] the possibility of the two of us
'coming out' for the show's twentieth anniversary show. But then... you
know... Frank [Oz] started getting a little antsy about how the
affiliates might react to the idea of homosexual lead characters, and...
basically the storyline got scrapped. And now they're going to revive
it, with two chicks? Please! They just want to be able to show the two
of them kissing!"
Bert became distraught at that point, and had to be soothed by long-time
partner Ernie, who had a similar viewpoint on the situation. "It's
bull[bleep], really. Our love has to be covered up - prettied - by showing
us sleeping in twin beds. What they refuse to admit is that we push
those beds together when they turn off the cameras, and they refuse to admit
what the real significance of Rubber Ducky is in our relationship! Well,
we won't take it anymore - we're queer, and we're here!" Bert and Ernie
then proceeded to kiss for the cameras, but a security guard for CTW
confiscated the cameras and had all press removed from the set.
